CEREC Same Day Crowns are designed and created in our in-house laboratory by Dr. McGrane and Dr. Besler then permanently placed on your tooth – all during the same appointment! Your new porcelain crown is finished the same day it is started, saving you time ~ hence the name “Same Day Crowns.”
Our Cedar Rapids Dentists are among the few dentist in Cedar Rapids to offer this advanced, innovative same day technology. Don’t delay your dental treatment, if you need a crown, call us today.
The Advantage of CEREC vs. Traditional Crowns
- CEREC Crowns Require: only one 2 hour appointment; getting numb only once to have your permanent, porcelain crown completed and placed on your tooth! All in one appointment!
- Traditional Crowns Require: 2 dental appointments, 3 weeks wearing a temporary crown and 2 numbing injections – one at each appointment.
- Both CEREC and Traditional crowns are made of an all porcelain resin.
In summary, CEREC’s innovative technology has universally transformed getting a dental crown from a 3 week process, to a time-saving 2 hour procedure – completed in one day!
Your CEREC Appointment Explained:
During your initial dental exam with either of our CEREC Certified dentists, Dr. McGrane or Dr. Besler will determine if a damaged or decayed tooth needs a crown. Using digital x-rays and CAD-CAM software (Computer-Assisted Design/Computer-Assisted Manufacturing) light scanning technology the doctors create and capture the image of the tooth – this is a digital impression. This is done in the operatory on the CEREC digital machine – right beside the chair you sit in! During the digital scanning you will be able to watch Dr. McGrane or Dr. Besler use their creative skills to design the image that will ultimately produce your customized porcelain crown.
This quick digital process eliminates gooey impressions and long wait times for lab work to be completed.
The digital impression gives the CEREC milling machine all the information needed to manufacture a beautiful all-porcelain dental crown. The digital image is sent to the milling machine in our in-office lab where it will then be created in approximately 15 minutes. Once the crown is milled (completed) the dentists add their unique artistic shading and polishing to finish the CEREC crown. The new crown is then securely bonded (cemented) on your tooth and the procedure is completed. From the moment you enter the office, to the time you are walking out, the entire process usually takes less than 2 hours!
